Wilton Farm is a traditional, family-run working farm situated high on the rolling hills of the South Hams, offering a peaceful and authentic camping experience in one of Devon’s most stunning landscapes. Guests staying here can truly embrace the Good Life, surrounded by wild headlands, lush grassy fields and unspoiled sandy beaches. The campsite is set above the charming village of South Pool, providing the perfect base for exploring the Salcombe Estuary and the dramatic Devon coastline. A short walk down the ancient bridleway takes you to the creek, where high tide invites peaceful paddle boarding or kayaking through quiet estuary waters.
Spanning 15 acres of open fields, Wilton Farm offers a free-range camping experience that blends harmoniously with the natural environment. The site remains entirely off-grid, with no electric hook-ups or flushing toilets, embracing a minimal-impact approach. Rustic wooden huts house compost toilets, heated showers and washing facilities, allowing guests to stay comfortable while respecting the surrounding countryside. Multiple water stations provide fresh drinking water and a recycling and waste area helps to maintain the site’s commitment to sustainability.
The facilities at Wilton Farm include seven compost loos, three urinals, five hot showers, a washing and changing area and designated quiet camping fields for those seeking extra tranquility. There’s a washing-up station and the small farm shop is stocked with locally sourced produce such as eggs, sausages, bread and other essentials. You can also hire fire-pits and BBQs here and there’s freezer space available for ice packs. For those inevitable rainy days, the communal hangout barn offers a sheltered space to relax and socialise. Guests can also enjoy animal feeding sessions with friendly Jersey calves, pet lambs and chickens, or admire the farm’s vintage fleet of tractors.
Wilton Farm is dog-friendly and welcomes well-behaved furry companions and we have power points at reception available for charging devices for a small fee. This is a place for laid-back, peaceful camping where nature is the main attraction and simple pleasures take centre stage.
We welcome campervans (7 metres and under) but unfortunately are unable to take bookings for caravans and large motorhomes. The narrow single Devon country lanes leading to our campsite are not suitable for these vehicles.
Located in the heart of the South Hams, this area of Devon is famed for its golden beaches, winding country lanes, and the dramatic beauty of the South West Coast Path. A short walk down the tidal lane leads to the beaches of East Portlemouth, where a ferry can take you across the water to the bustling sailing town of Salcombe. Nearby, the award-winning Millbrook Inn and the famously quirky Pigs Nose Inn offer great food, local cider and the traditional tastes of the Westcountry, including Salcombe crab and freshly baked Devon pasties.
